I do love a good cookbook. Some however have just made my shelf look beautiful and are not as well used as I would like. It is no big secret that I am a huge Jamie Oliver and Nigella Fan. Ministry of Food by Jamie is one of my personal favourites and Nigella’s Christmas Is permanently coated in flour and other cooking ingredients.
Today my friend introduced me to a new cookbook. Always dubious about new recipes and cookbooks I like to have a flick through and see if there were any recipes that sparked excitement in me before committing. This book by Tana Ramsey has really sparked excitement.
Macaroni Cheese is one of my son Josh’s favourite recipes so I couldn’t wait to try this one out. So keen in fact, I took a screen shot of the ingredients, sent them to Josh who was at home, checking on whether we had them all. I was ready to make this today.
Ingredients prepped (Cayenne Pepper omitted because we didn’t have it) and the streaky bacon was substituted with Smokey Bacon as that was what I had in the fridge.
I was slightly dubious at mixing in chopped tomatoes into my cheese sauce and it kind of went a pinky colour and at this point I wasn’t sure what the boys would think to my ‘new’ macaroni cheese recipe.
It was actually really tasty. The only change I would make would be to double the portion size. We are a family of 5 and my boys eat well.
The jury is still out on the chopped tomatoes. All in all a success. So this recipe book is definitely going on my Birthday list.
